The Sixers needed to make some big changes and they delivered.
Brett Brown seems like a stand-up guy, but the Sixers needed a new coach. Arguably, they snagged one of the best with Doc Rivers, coach of the famous Celtics big three and most recently the Clippers.
They also have a new President of basketball operations, Daryl Morey, known for making big moves. Thank goodness he continues to live up to his reputation with the Sixers.
Perhaps most importantly, we have kept our anchors in Embiid and Simmons.
We also kept Tobias Harris, who was lackluster much of last season, but has All-Star potential. The lineup and team chemistry were off last year, but with some new faces, expect Harris, along with Embiid and Simmons, to thrive. The Sixers finally added more shooters and better role players.
Here are the new faces who will make a big difference:
Danny Green: A man who has won championships with the Spurs, Raptors, and now the Lakers. He got a lot of hate this year for missing a lot of threes, but his defense, experience, and shooting could be huge for the team’s success.
Seth Curry: Brother of the legend Steph, coming off a great year with the Mavericks. Statistically one of the best three point shooters in the league, he can complement Simmons and Embiid.
Dwight Howard: Fresh off of a championship with the Lakers where he accepted a smaller role, Howard could be pivotal as a back-up and mentor to Embiid. He loves to bang down low and still racks up rebounds and blocks.
Tony Bradley: Another back-up big man coming off a solid year with the Jazz. He plays solid defense and sets good screens.
Projected starting lineup: Embiid, Simmons, Harris, Green, and Curry
Bench Players Who Play Regularly: Milton, Howard, Bradley, Thybulle, Korkmaz/ Joe (rookie who can shoot)
Projected Place in Eastern Conference Standings: 3rd, behind the Bucks and Heat
Performance in Playoffs: ? Let’s see them play together first
But maybe, just maybe, we’ll see a parade down Broad Street.
