Joel Embiid Is Incredible, But He Is Wrong; The Sixers Do Need More Help

Joel Embiid has been on a tear lately, scoring over 30 points in eleven straight road games and leading the Sixers to a recent seven game win streak. He is playing at an MVP level and the team is winning, prompting Embiid to say they do not need any more help for the rest of the season, amidst the Ben Simmons drama.

Joel Embiid's journey to the NBA — and his latest Sixers record — unbelievable even to him

Unfortunately, I think he is wrong here.

Even if Simmons came back to play for the Sixers, something less and less likely each passing day, this team would not win the championship.

The Nets, Bucks, and arguably the Heat or Bulls can beat this Sixers team, much less the talented Warriors or Suns coming out of the West.

Embiid is in his prime and there is no reason the Sixers should not push to make a Championship run, even if their chances are relatively low.

Just look at the Raptors team who won with Kawhi Leonard a few years ago, where they beat a weathered and injured Warriors team in the Finals. You never know who will get injured during a playoff run. The Sixers are capable of what the Raptors accomplished with some luck, if they are able to bring in another All Star level talent, or at least someone close to that level. With that being said, the Sixers are unlikely to get what Daryl Morey wants, which is a superstar level player.

While I don’t think getting someone like Fox from the Kings or Brogdon from the Pacers will take the Sixers to the top, I do think a move of that kind gives them a better chance than not having Simmons play at all.

There are also talks of including Tobias Harris in the trade and I am all for that move. While I like Harris and appreciate his skill and leadership, his contract costs the Sixers way too much. He is a solid player, but not a max contract player.

Please make a trade before the deadline, Sixers!
